The Mount Arrowsmith Skating Club, located in Port Alberni on beautiful Vancouver Island, BC is currently accepting applications for the 2021/22 Winter Skating season (September to mid-April). We are looking for a minimum level Regional coach (preferably certified Provincial Level or higher) with motivation to further their education with the prospect of taking over the role of Head Coach or Director of Skating.  

Port Alberni is a family-oriented community, and the Mount Arrowsmith Skating Club is a well-established and organized club with over 100 members. We run all Skate Canada programs including CanPower and Special Olympics.

Position Requirements

Club ice times are Tuesday to Friday late afternoon/evenings and Sunday morning and night, starting mid-September to mid-March.  Spring and summer skating (reduced hours) are held at different Vancouver ice rinks from April to mid-August.

Maple Ridge Skating Club is currently accepting applications for the 2021/2022 season.  We are   looking for an enthusiastic and motivated coach preferably with Provincial Level Certification and experience with Synchro to join our team.

MRSC offers year-round skating for StarSkate, Fall/Winter and Spring sessions for Canskate, Junior Academy and Synchro.  Our programs run 6 days a week.

The Northern British Columbia Centre for Skating is currently seeking a Director of Skating to provide leadership for our training programs and athlete development and to run club operations.  We are a club of approximately 300 members located in beautiful Prince George, British Columbia! We are a progressive club with a highly motivated board of directors to work with you for success!  We also have the privilege of running ice ALL YEAR, and we can offer full time employment for this position.

We are looking for an organized, compassionate, highly motivated, professional individual with a passion for skating, who demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of skaters in conjunction with current NBCCS staff.

Main duties of the Director position include:

  • Providing leadership, supervision and coordination for programs and coaching staff, including recommendations to the NBCCS Board for day-to-date club operations
  • In collaboration with the NBCCS Board of Directors, develop and implement NBCCS schedules and programs.
  • Coaching programs of all levels, including CanSkate, CanPowerSkate and StarSkate.
  • Complete required lesson programming and work in conjunction with other NBCCS staff to deliver programs.
  • Analyze performance of athletes and strategize goal setting with both athletes and the coaching team, implement training/coaching tactics and practice sessions accordingly.
  • In accordance with the NBCCS strategic plan, continually assess and re-assess priority areas for athlete development.
  • Strategize further development training opportunities for athletes and coaches, including seminar recommendations.
  • Be the primary liaison between the coaching staff and the NBCCS board of directors. The successful candidate will be required to attend monthly meetings as the coaching team representative and provide input.
  • Have a close working relationship with the board of directors, NBCCS staff, and the officials and BC/YK Skate Canada section. The successful candidate will work hand-in-hand with the board of directors for club success and will require a strong working relationship with the NBCCS Board of Directors, club volunteers, coaches, officials, the BC Division of Skate Canada.
  • Work with the CanSkate Coordinator to manage, plan, and run CanSkate programming.
  • Supervise and develop NBBCS team program assistants.
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful working relationships with athletes, parents, and coaches to ensure effective and efficient delivery of programs.
  • Complete any other administrative duties to assist in daily operations of the club, as agreed with the board of directors.

Skills and Attributes required for the position:

  • Minimum 5 years coaching experience, with preference to those individuals with previous leadership experience.
  • Minimum Provincial (National preferred) and higher certification and in good standing with Skate Canada.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • Ability and desire to coach at all skating levels and programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and conduct themselves in a professional and confidential manner.
  • Willing to work collaboratively with the NBCCS board of Directors to continue to help the Club and it’s programs develop.
  • Ability to effectively mentor athletes, working together to help them set and achieve their goals.
  • Confidence in managing the NBCCS coaching team, including Junior Coaches and Program Assistants, in a collaborative and supportive manner.
  • Utilizes open and transparent communication, including as an approach conflict resolution.
  • Always be a positive role model and team player.
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills and demonstrates the ability to take initiative.
  • Strong working knowledge of Uplifter software and work together with NBCCS staff for Uplifter program maintenance.
  • Experience with Weebly software would be an asset.

Availability:

  • The successful candidate will be available for programming from Monday to Saturday. Unless there is a special event we do not typically have programming on Sunday.
  • The successful candidate will have the ability to work flexible hours.

Compensation:

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of roughly 40 hours per week that includes ice time, administrative time, and private coaching.
  • Compensation will consist of a base salary (commensurate with experience) that will start at $60,000 (total compensation) and upward, based on experience.
  • NBBCS will assist with compensation for relocation expenses to Prince George
  • NBBCS will further financially support the successful candidate in obtaining further training. (staff can apply to the NBCCS board for training compensation per calendar year)

Nepean Skating Club – Coach

The Nepean Skating Club (NSC), located in the greater Ottawa area, is a growing and progressive skating club with several hundred members ranging from 3 years to adult. The Prescott Figure Skating Club is seeking a Canskate Coach to join our team for the Fall & Winter 2021/2022 Season and beyond. PFSC has been offering skating programs to Prescott and area skaters for over 50 years, from beginner to elite competitive skaters. In 2018, our long time home arena closed. Sherwood Parkdale Skating Club

Sherwood Parkdale Skating Club is looking to add two-three enthusiastic Canskate Coaches and one CanPowerSkate Coach to our Coaching Team for the 2021-2022 Season. Flying Blades Skating Club is currently seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, professional Regional Coach Trained to join our club for the 2021/2022 skating season.
