What is the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge?
Junior and senior skaters from across Canada will compete at the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge, a virtual competition that will take place from January 8-10 and January 15-17, 2021. Skate Canada Challenge serves as the qualifying event for the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships to be held February 8-14 in Vancouver, B.C. The 2021 Skate Canada Challenge will feature men’s, women’s, ice dance and pair events at the junior and senior level.
How is this virtual competition being held?
The 2021 Skate Canada Challenge will be held over two weekends (January 8-10 and January 15-17). Prior to the skater’s sectional championship, they have declared their performances from either their respective sectional championships, or a section-organized Challenge Skate, and the videos of these performances have been submitted to be judged in real time during the event.

Skate Canada will live stream all six days of the competition. Hosted by former skater and current broadcaster Ted Barton, coverage will also include interviews with athletes, coaches and Skate Canada leaders, along with exclusive content you will not find anywhere else. How many skaters will qualify for the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships?
The top two flights in each event will qualify for the 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, broken down as follows:
- 12 competitors in men’s and women’s (junior and senior)
- 10 teams in ice dance (junior and senior)
- 8 teams in pair (junior and senior)
The 2021 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, Canada’s flagship domestic figure skating event featuring the top junior and senior skaters in the country, will be held February 8-14 at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, B.C.
Which athletes will be competing at the 2021 Skate Canada Challenge?
The full list of athlete entries will be confirmed prior to the start of competition. Start Orders will be posted the week of January 4, 2021.
