STAR University

Coaches will apply and be selected to attend the interactive professional development program that will focus on the Learn to Train stage of figure skating, specifically the new STAR 1-5 program. Skate Canada’s STAR program has undergone developmental changes and has been restructured to highlight and align with Skate Canada’s LTAD philosophies. With these changes, there is a lot of new and exciting information to share with coaches including: STAR program delivery options, teaching strategies, skill vs level standards, and the greatly anticipated coach assessed format. The STAR U program will incorporate all disciplines of the instruction stream of figure skating; free skate, dance, and skills. The STAR U program will encourage active coach participation with the use of situational examples allowing coaches to explore specific needs for their skaters. In addition, discussions will lead to strategic thought and planning as to how coaches will be able to best implement this new and improved figure skating program into their respective Skate Canada clubs.
