Les Suprêmes in four-way battle for world junior synchronized skating title

ZAGREB, Croatia – Les Suprêmes from St-Léonard, Que., are in fourth place after the short program but just six points from top spot at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships.

Junost from Russia is first with 68.50 points, Skyliners from the U.S., are second at 65.15, Crystal Ice from Russia third at 63.33 and Les Suprêmes fourth at 62.33.

The Suprêmes skaters are Amelia Asparian, Agnes Astrom, Camile Ceneston, Loriana Cocca, Alice Cormier, Alice Côté, Jade Deschenes, Olivia Di Giandomenico, Victoria Gligorijevic, Giulia Hart-Lewis, Nea-Nora Hyyppa, Jessica Iacono, Astrid Kumpulainen, Grace LeTouzel, Maude Major, Élise Potvin, Olivia Ronca, Julia Spilak, Anne-Laurence Trudeau and Sarah Verville.

‘’We had a really good performance and we are very pleased with it,’’ said Jessica Iacono. ‘’We displayed calmness throughout the program. We are excited to show our free program. It’s something we’ve worked toward all year.’’

Nexxice from Burlington, Ont., is in eight place. The skaters for Nexxice are: Avery Clark, Molly Coxon, Abbey Glumpak, Sarah Hayman, Amanda Kauffman, Elizabeth McKenna, Mya Napier, Madeleine North, Tegan Orr, Desiree Perry, Julia Polowy, Nitika Rattanpal, Carolina Rodriguez, Joseline Simmons, Natalia Solarino, Scarlet Panning-Stinson, Emily Van Berkel and Milja Wilamo.

‘’Unfortunately we didn’t have our best showing of the short program,’’ said Emily Van Berkel. ‘’We had a lot of confidence going in because our official practices for our short went very well. Now we are going to look to finish here with a strong free skate.’’

Competition ends Saturday.
