BRATISLAVA Slovakia – Kevin Reynolds of Coquitlam, B.C., is in second place after the men’s short program on Friday at the Ondrej Nepela Memorial figure skating competition.

Sergei Voronov of Russia stands first with 80.21 points followed by Reynolds at 75.35 and Gordei Gorshkov of Russia third at 71.73.

Reynolds previously competed at this event in 2012 and placed fourth. Last season, Reynolds won the bronze medal at the 2016 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships and placed 11th at the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships.

The first medals were distributed in women’s competition Friday. Maria Sotskoya led Russia to a 1—2 finish with Julia Lipnitskaia second. Kelsey Wong of Burnaby, B.C., was 23rd.

In ice dancing, Mackenzie Bent of Uxbridge, Ont., and Dmitre Razgulajevs of Ajax, Ont., are 12th after the short dance.

The men’s free skate and free dance are on Saturday. Canada has no entries pairs competition.
